Near Mint.
The “Marathons” were really The Vibrations, but the song was bootlegged by a label that hadn’t signed The Vibrations, so they made up a fake name to put on the record so they wouldn’t get busted—and, like peanut butter, it stuck. At any rate, the song is a top-notch rip-off of the “Hully Gully” beat on The Olympics’ record of that name. This one, though, is extra chunky and funky because of the ludicrous lyrics. Troy Shondell’s “This Time” on the B-Side.
